Inner City School Kids: More Politically Sophisticated Than You Thought
I swear to God I overheard the following exchange between a couple of school-aged girls on the Red Line to Shady Grove this morning around 9:15.
Girl 1: You know what I heard the President wanted for his birthday?
Girl 2: What?
Girl 1: A lap dance from Condoleeza Rice.
If only I had the imagination to make that up. Kids these days say the oddest things...

"School-aged" like 9-10 or 13-15? Very funny though...
Obviously many inner-city kids are very sophisticated. The majority of my clients are from the inner-city. It raises the bigger philosophical question of "If they are so sophisticated, then what are we doing wrong in inner-city schools?". Clearly these children do not suffer from a lack of intellect but rather an environment that is not conducive to scholastic success. That's the subject of a whole other blog (or book).
Well LS, to quote my girl Lulu: "It's so difficult to know how old children are these days, what with all the growth hormones they put in foods that make them mature so damn fast." I'd put them at about age 12.
And yes, you are correct-o on the environmental factors. That and parents who have to work a lot so they aren't always around to be parental and everything else.
On an unrelated note: Shoutout to HP in Wonkette! Thanks Wonkette!
You should send this in to the "Overheard in DC" feature on DCist...
Sorry to bust the bubble, but the girls no doubt heard it on Steve Harvey's syndicated morning radio show (as I did, on Detroit's WMXD, 92.3 FM) - the Condi Lap Dance was one of Steve's "Top Ten" list for the day (top tens things George Bush wnted for his birthday).
